Sightsavers International – who we are and what we do
75% of global blindness can be prevented or cured, and Sightsavers International has been working for over 50 years to combat avoidable blindness in some of the world’s most impoverished countries, restoring sight through specialist treatment and eye care for those who need it most.
Loss of sight often leads to social exclusion, making people who are blind vulnerable to abuse, poverty and death. Sightsavers also supports people who are irreversibly blind by providing education, counselling and training, helping them make a better future for themselves.
Working in partnership with local organisations in 33 developing countries, means our projects are appropriate for the different cultural settings in which we work. In this way we have helped restore sight to more than five million people and treated over 70 million for potentially blinding conditions.
